Why gutters matter

Gutters are part of the roof system

A roof sheds water; the gutters decide where it goes next. When gutters are too small, pitched wrong or clogged, water spills over the front edge, soaks the fascia, splashes against the siding and pools along the foundation. In winter, a gutter full of ice adds weight to the eave and helps ice dams build.

On many Novi homes, the roof is large and steep, with long runs of eave and valleys that send a lot of water to a few spots. Those spots need gutters and downspouts sized for the flow, not just whatever is standard. We look at roof area and pitch, where valleys dump, how many downspouts there are and where the water ends up on the ground.

We install seamless aluminum gutters formed on site to fit your home, with fewer joints to leak. Hangers are spaced to carry snow and ice. Downspouts are placed and extended so water moves away from the house, and guards are available to keep leaves and seeds out. When we are also working on the roof, we coordinate the drip edge and gutter so meltwater lands where it should.

What we install

Gutter work for Novi homes

Everything that moves water from the roof edge to a safe spot in the yard.

Seamless gutters

One continuous run between corners, with no seams along the length to leak or pull apart.

Fewer joints, fewer drips

Downspouts & extensions

Enough downspouts for the roof area, placed so water lands well away from the foundation.

Keeps basements drier

Gutter guards

Covers that keep leaves, seeds and shingle grit out so the gutter keeps flowing between cleanings.

Cuts down on clogs

Sizing to the roof

Steep, large or valley-fed roof sections push more water; we size the gutter and outlets to match.

No overflow in downpours

Ice & snow detailing

Solid hangers, the right pitch and ice and water shield at the eaves so winter ice does less harm.

Built for freeze-thaw

Gutter repairs

Leaking corners, loose hangers and clogged or crushed downspouts fixed when the system is still worth keeping.

Repair before replace
Choosing the right setup

Gutters, guards and downspouts, side by side

Not every house needs every option. A ranch with no trees nearby may only need properly sized seamless gutters and a couple of well-placed downspouts. A two-story with oaks and maples over the roof will spend every fall clogging unless it has guards.

During the free inspection we look at the roof pitch and size, where the valleys dump water, the trees overhead and where the yard slopes, then recommend what the house actually needs. You get it in writing with photos of the problem spots, so you can compare it fairly.

If the gutters you have are the right size and still hold their pitch, we’ll say so. Sometimes a few added downspouts, longer extensions or a set of guards solve the problem without new gutters at all. And if the roof itself is near the end of its life, we’ll point that out too, because gutters are best replaced when the new drip edge goes on.

How it works

Three steps to gutters that actually drain

You see what we find before you decide anything.

Free inspection

We check the gutters, downspouts, fascia and roof edge, and watch where the water goes now.

  • Photos of problem spots
  • Roof edge checked too
  • Honest repair vs. replace

Written estimate

You get a written estimate with the gutter size, downspout locations and any guards spelled out.

  • Sized to your roof
  • Options side by side
  • No pressure

Clean install

We hang the new system, test the flow and clean up the yard before we leave.

  • Pitch set to drain
  • Old gutters hauled away
  • Daily cleanup

Fighting ice dams?

Ice along the gutters usually starts on the roof: heat loss, ventilation and missing ice and water shield.

Gutters in Novi

Leaves, seeds and a long Michigan fall

Established Novi neighborhoods have the mature trees that keep gutters busy.

Older Novi subdivisions and the streets around Walled Lake often have tall maples, oaks and pines that drop leaves, seeds and needles from spring through late fall. Gutters that clog in November freeze solid in December. Newer neighborhoods have their own issue: large roofs and grading that need downspouts placed and extended with care so water doesn’t collect near the foundation.

Gutter guards

Cut down on clogs from leaves, seed pods and pine needles.

Downspout placement

Extended and directed so water drains away from the foundation and walkways.

Sized for the roof

Gutter and downspout size matched to roof area and where the valleys dump.

Roofing questions

Gutter questions from Novi homeowners

Sizes, guards and how to keep water away from the house.

Does my Novi HOA need to approve new gutters?
If you are changing the color or style, many HOAs with architectural review will want to see it. Matching the existing color usually isn’t an issue, but check your association’s rules.
Do I need a permit for new gutters in Novi?
Gutter installation usually doesn’t need one on its own, but check with the City of Novi building division to be sure, especially if drainage or grading changes are involved.
What are seamless gutters?
They are formed on site from a continuous coil of aluminum to the exact length of each run, so there are joints only at corners and downspouts, and fewer places to leak.
Do gutter guards really work?
They cut down on clogs and how often you need to clean, especially under trees. No guard is maintenance-free; some debris still needs to be cleared now and then.
What size gutters do I need?
It depends on roof area, pitch and how much water the valleys send to each section. Large, steep roofs often need larger gutters and more downspouts.
Can gutters cause ice dams?
Gutters don’t cause ice dams, but clogged gutters full of ice make them worse. Ice dams start with heat loss from the house; gutters and the roof edge need to be detailed together.
